Abstract
Motivated by the common use in the contemporary intellectual production and official documents referred to the critical pedagogy, this paper is presented to know and understand the central aspects of this approach within the educational field. Therefore, with a map of ideas of the educational theory in the critical pedagogy, it was proceeded to elucidate the following questions: Is critical pedagogy an educational theory? Who are its representatives? What are the principal assumptions in the critical pedagogy? And finally, is the critical pedagogy a clear support to the national educational policy? So, the final consideration is concluded: The educational theory in the critical pedagogy is not a clear support to the educational policy; however, Paulo Freire's ideas could be analyzed.
