Abstract

The present essay on the responsibility or university social commitment of higher education institutions in Venezuela and the world, it is an invitation to the reflect on this issue addressing its origin, current challenges, impacts and characteristics. An evident fact  in the institutional dynamics is the convenience of joining efforts to find solutions to people’s daily problems, getting them away from the university cloister and to open the doors for the exchange of academic and productive knowledge and actions in a relationship of mutual benefits. It is highlighted that the responsibility or social commitment, even when it is not a new dimension, constitute a dynamic way to reach the population, feel their problems, challenges, expectations and that the initiative can be reached in that integration between the school and the community to form a community conscious of their contributions to the local, regional and national development of their country.
