Abstract
This qualitative investigation is supported on the interpretative paradigm; with the hermeneutics and phenomenological approach which allowed us to know the role of the communication and information technologies in the development of certain competences related to technological applications in students of the Medicine Program of the Centroccidental "Lisandro Alvarado" University (UCLA), based on teachers’ opinions. The sample was constituted by nine teachers of the Program of Medicine of the UCLA, who were approached by means of the interview in depth. The information was analyzed, categorized and interpreted with the intention of describing the competences that students can develop with the use of the ICT. They are: interaction, accomplishment of virtual procedures, investigation, acquisition and updating knowledge and ICT as specific competence. It is necessary to optimize the use of the ICT in the educational process at the UCLA, so the student develops the professional competences described in this study.
