Abstract
This literature review aims to generate theoretical reflections about the importance of a paradigm as a legitimizing concept of scientific knowledge. It also intends to start the paradigmatic debate in graduate studies at the Universidad Pedagógica Experimental Libertador Instituto Pedagógico de Barquisimeto, in order to improve the quality of knowledge production. In this context, various sources related to educational research were reviewed, positivist research paradigms, socioconstructionism and sociocritical paradigms, the theoretical postulates of each of these paradigms and the two research traditions associated with the above paradigms. Finally, we conclude that there is no research without paradigms, as they will set the road for the researcher to walk on.
