Abstract

This qualitative research is a focused analysis. The sociocritical approach has been used for its development. Its purpose is to perceive the constructs and the community participation in the oral and written discourses of a group of teachers and students in the Geography of Venezuela subject at UPEL. The procedure included: i) selection of topics, ii) interview design, and iii) categorization. Regarding community participation, we perceived a. teachers try to enhance students’ awareness, b. teachers and students resist community participation, c. community participation is suggested as a part of the subject, d. the teaching of geography should be taken as a means to enhance community participation. In conclusion, teachers need to highlight the value of community participation in students as a potential way to solve problems.
