Abstract
The present article reports a critical review of The Capitalist School written by Christian Baudelot and Roger Establet. The purpose was to analyze the theoretical contributions that could help understand Latin American education of the 21st century. The methodology consisted in the critical reading and analysis of contents in the light of concepts such: social project, new scenarios, educational demands, transformation of society, education as a human right, quality and permanent teacher training. In the arguments, contemporary authors and official documents from international organizations were considered. It is concluded that the main concern of the authors was the inequality of the educational system, which still persists in the Latin American society, proposing as solution social integration. It is also noted that state policies and teacher action are vital in shaping a citizen responsible to the problems of society.
