Abstract

This study of qualitative methodological approach using life history, was intended to explore the meanings attached to personal development by three students with motor disabilities, hearing and visual in higher education at the Pedagogical Institute of Barquisimeto "Luis Beltran Prieto Figueroa". The findings showed that the family and educational experiences are essential to create opportunities for social inclusion, and these, combined with aspects such as emotions, self-acceptance, independence, autonomy and coexistence, guide and direct the achievement of the goals, as well as the mission and vision of life. This means that personal development depends on individual factors interrelated with the individual's participation in social environments. Finally, it was observed an axiological substrate in the development of human potential, education as a key element of the process and the need to go beyond the concept of disability as a limiting condition.
