Abstract

This essay proposes the construct phonetological evolution processes to refer to the consonant sound modifications in speech, instead of phonetic/phonological phenomena. First, the subject matter is introduced. Then, the proposal is made. This proposal is theoretically supported. It also includes the explanation and description of three particular consonant sound cases in Spanish: yeísmo, lambdacismo - rotacismo and glotalización del fonema / s /. Finally, it is concluded that the processes mentioned above are the result of changes that take place in the language through time, and an invitation is offered to keep on researching on the topic.
