Abstract
Corpus Linguistics (CL) has served many sciences and disciplines in the last years; foreign language teaching is one of them. However, many EFL teachers in Spanish speaking countries seem not to be aware of this fact. This documentary paper first revises the state of the art of this discipline: origins, theories, definitions, methods, classification; second, it sheds light on the impact of CL in the foreign language teaching field. The advantages of designing teaching materials based on corpus are discussed as well as the use of corpora as part of the teaching strategies. The importance of using corpora in the English language classroom is highlighted and teachers are advised to use CL to better foreign language learning processes.
