Abstract

This essay attempts to show the redationship between discourse, reality, power and degradation as a consequence of the transgression of the order established in a discourse. The tale to be analyzed is "El Ermitaño del Reloj" written by Venezuelan writer Teresa de la Parra. Through its content analysis, and based on Foacault´s (1970) and Van Dijk´s (1994) Theories, the power of a social groups´s legitimate discourse is proved. This legitimate discourse is a written set of rules which determines am order to be thoroughly followed; otherwise the de degradation of the individual occurs.
