Abstract

This essay is framed within the hermeneutical approach, with which it is intended to generate reflections on the impact of COVID-19 in students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and the challenges to the educational system with the implementation of virtual education, with an emphasis on Venezuela. Distance and online education is implemented in schools, being a completely new situation for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), as well as for parents and teachers, it is currently the only education method available. For students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) this can be challenging as they require a special approach to their educational needs, which means that the education must be tailored to their abilities and needs. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the inequalities in access to the Internet and digital technologies in Venezuela, not all students with this condition have appropriate technological tools, a problem that leads to marked inequality according to the socioeconomic situation of each family nucleus.
